One might wonder to what extent the first and principal piece of this release, also titled ‘The Bliss of Bliss’, resembles a natural history of music: an abstract vision that weighs both the proportion of its ways and its very essence through time. Possibly, but if so, the bell tolls shortly after the appearance of jazz, at the end of the forty-minute mark, which cannot be very hopeful. So maybe let’s not think about that.

Let’s rather see in this piece what it makes us feel, as its experience is exceptional.

With his piano as vehicle, Pat Thomas creates worlds where areas seem to exist only because it is illuminated by sounds, like sonic breakthroughs that illuminate these previously unexplored spaces, conceivable only thanks to the sounds produced.

Here, sound is everything, and when it ends, space disappears with it. These are sounds that open worlds we could never imagine on our own, sounds so addictive we can only follow them through all of those dimensions.

Yes, the experience is sound, completely, uniquely so. And space takes shape only so these sounds may exist. To take shape. But without a destination, other than this temporary, magnificent space, which constantly collapses on itself to re-invest other universes and spaces the next moment.

Unheard, primal, abstract, for a unique experience. It is a magnificent improvisation.
