Jazz Around the World

Exploring 21st Century Jazz by Country

Jazz is a genre that knows no borders. From New York to Stockholm, from Japan to South Africa, jazz continues to evolve and move forward in the 21st century. Our “Jazz Around the World” series invites you to discover the unique sounds, artists, and stories of modern jazz across the globe.

Jazz Around the World

Now that we have passed the first quarter of the 21st century, this “Jazz in …” series of articles aims to highlight key releases from specific countries by artists or groups who did not release albums under their own names during the 20th century. Our goal is to ensure that new talents are not overshadowed by legends and to offer you the opportunity to discover amazing new musicians and albums.

As we celebrate International Jazz Day each year on April 30th, this series also seeks to connect with the spirit of global unity and cultural exchange that jazz embodies.

If you wish to contribute to this series for a specific country, feel free to contact us.

To make it navigable, we will be following the seven-continent “Parts” of the world model (but ignoring Antarctica–unless someone has something to say about it!) to explore jazz scenes from countries and regions all around the globe. This approach helps us cover as many places as possible, offering you a true world tour of 21st-century jazz.

When it comes to the United States, though, things are a bit different. With its unique contribution to jazz, we will focus on key cities like New York, Chicago, and other major hubs. This way, we can dive deeper into the local scenes and share the sounds and stories that make each city so special.
